Lumino City Introduction

Lumino City Join Lumi in Lumino City, a paper-and-motor adventure puzzle world. Explore iconic spots, manipulate objects, uncover clues, and solve tricky challenges to rescue her kidnapped grandfather.

Lumino City

Lumino City is a charming adventure puzzle game. You play as Lumi, the guardian of the City of Light, searching for her kidnapped grandfather. Your journey takes you through a city made from paper, cards, and tiny mechanical parts, where you’ll solve puzzles across locations such as the Hanging Gardens and the Giant Waterwheel.

Clues are hidden throughout the handmade world, and the final goal is to rescue her grandfather. The puzzles are thoughtfully difficult, so you’ll often need creative problem-solving and a close look at what surrounds you. The overall campaign length is moderate.

Lumino City

How gameplay works

  • Tap the background: Lumi can walk to that spot.
  • Tap an object: you can interact with it and manipulate it.
  • Record player tip: in some areas, tapping the record player stops the background sound so you can hear the music coming from the player.
  • Carry items: certain objects can be placed into a bag and used later.

Movement, transitions, and puzzle flow

  • When you move to a new area, the change feels smooth—like the camera is gliding forward—rather than simply swapping static backgrounds.
  • Soundtrack changes: the background music updates whenever you enter a different location.
  • Lumino City

  • It can be tricky at first to tell what’s part of the scenery versus what’s an interactive object. If you’re stuck, try tapping around—some solutions come from items you might otherwise overlook.

Important: once you tap the background, you won’t be able to manipulate objects until Rumi arrives. Mis-taps happen, but they can interrupt progress when you’re in the middle of experimenting.

Moving forward with villagers

  • As you progress to the next location, villagers appear.
  • By solving their problems, you can unlock access to the following area.
  • Lumino City

  • Learn what to do by speaking with Rumi and the villagers. The dialogue advances one sentence per touch.
  • If you accidentally skip part of the conversation, it becomes harder to figure out the correct solution—so read carefully.
  • You can sometimes receive extra clues by responding back to the person you already talked to.

Need more help? Use the grandfather’s book

Many puzzle steps are required to solve the villagers’ issues. If you still can’t figure it out, check the grandfather’s book inside your bag for more guidance.

Screen size note (sub-4-inch iPhone)

Playing on a sub-4-inch iPhone can be challenging because the screen is small, increasing the chance you’ll miss the exact spot you meant to tap.

Features

Paper Cardboard Creation

Lumino City

The game’s world is built entirely from paper and cardboard, and it shows. There’s a strong creative streak behind the activities and scenes, giving the experience a unique, imaginative feel.

Miniature Mechanical Marvels

The environment doesn’t just look nice—it moves. The creators used lights and miniature motors to bring objects, vehicles, and characters to life.

Artistic Achievement Recognition

The craft behind the game has been recognized in the art world. In fact, Lumino City won a BAFTA award for building a large city out of paper.

Unique Environment Exploration

As Lumi explores, puzzles appear one after another. Their answers are often placed around the girl, encouraging you to travel around and observe the beautifully built environment.

Physics-Style Real-World Puzzle Logic

Touchscreen-optimized Experience

Lumino City

Player comments

  • “It’s a beautiful game. The music is great too—very relaxing. The puzzles are challenging, but not so frustrating that you lose momentum. There’s also a book you can use to understand what to do, so you don’t get completely stuck.”
  • “I wish the book could be navigated faster—like jumping to the table of contents—because I had to tap back through earlier pages. Minor gripe overall. I’m enjoying it a lot. Thanks to everyone who worked on it. It reminds me of Tearaway on Vita, which I loved.”
  • “Such a cute story. The puzzles were challenging, and seeing the funny characters throughout the city was awesome. Controls feel a bit touchy, and I didn’t think to use the manual until the last puzzle—so it would’ve helped earlier!”
  • “It feels very wholesome. I like how the puzzle hints are presented like a handbook. I’m usually not great at point-and-click puzzle games, so I didn’t expect much—but Lumino City ended up becoming one of my favorites.”
  • “Incredibly entertaining—seriously, the animations, music, and characters are amazing.”
